26. VISUAL EFFICIENCY COMPARISON: US vs. AFGHANISTAN
Judging from the following images, I would imagine that the US could reduce its fuel consumption for human transport to 1/20th the current level, and still get people from point A to point B. So it's a little ridiculous to claim the U.S. actually needs to burn 8 million barrels a day (mbd) of gasoline in personal automobiles. It's all about lifestyle, not necessity.

JD, have you ready Amory Lovin's Winning the Oil Endgame? There's alot in there about how to improve the MPG average of the vehicle fleet here in America. There's also info I think about how to go about a crash program to institute this, if a PO related price spike makes a natural transition difficult.

Note: Blogger should have an edit pencil for posters like they do for blogmasters, I had to erase this comment above to fix one spelling mistake! :<

ReplyDeleteAmory Lovins is a genius and a great anti-doomer. I respect him in a million ways. On the other hand, I wish he would stop trying to save the private automobile. Cars are bad for the environment and cause blight in the cities. ;-)
theres no way i'm getting on that thing to go to work
ReplyDeletePersonal transportation needn't consume petroleum.
ReplyDeleteDon't condemn autonomy just because of a common fuel used to fascilitate it.
